Day Seven - Final day

Day 7 promised much, and delivered - well.......quite a lot, but made the pilots work for every kilometre. We went for an early launch so as not to get too late at the end of the day, and there were 4 landbacks, but after all had relaunched, there was only one landout. Pilots were working hard for the first leg or two, but those who got further into the task were rewarded with a good convergence and some good flying. Anyway, we have had a Contest at last, and most importantly we have had some fun and some great companionship with no major problems.  Thanks to all who participated, and here's to doing it all again.

Day Six

Day Six also not so good - in fact, worse. Disappointing, but better than several contests this season which have been washed out altogether. We will have a result this time, with conditions tomorrow looking GREAT! Looking forward to the catered dinner tonight at the Taupo Gliding Club, and then an all-important final day tomorrow.

Day Five

Yesterday was tough going, but we had a contest day. Today, not so good. Low overcast with no forecast improvement, so no task set.

Day Four

Day Four had us fooled! We gridded optimistically under blue skies not expecting a great deal(see Gallery),  and sent up a "sniffer" who surprisingly reported thermals, and recommended a start. There were no immediate landbacks, but it has been tough. A good day to put down to experience!

Day Three

Well, things have been getting better and better here on the Central Plateau. Day one was a good stress-free look around the area for our visiting pilots with a "free flight" day. Day Two was a task, but a difficult day which limited the scoring opportunities, however Day Three was great, and I have just heard one pilot (not the winner!) say it is the best day's gliding he's ever had! Very satisfying to at last get a good day in.  Looking a bit blue for day four, but there's plenty to do in Taup...

CPC day one

Day One has dawned fine but overcast. The briefing was led by a welcome from the Mayor, David Trewevas, who said what a great asset the Gliding Club is, and welcomed our visitors from all over the North Island as well as Australia and Germany. A task was set, but the cloudbase stayed low, and the thermals were unreliable, so after an hour's wait the task was cancelled and the day set aside for free flying. Most pilots enjoyed a good local flight, but hoping for better things tomorrow.

Practice Day

YAY! Practice Day is here and at last the weather seems to be playing ball. Not a perfect day, but flyable, with an OK forecast. Lots of positive activity in the rigging areas; we could have a Competition on our hands!

Central Plateau Competition is close!

Less than a week now to the start of the Central Plateau Contest. Weather looks promising and the field is growing, so if you haven't entered, do it now. Remember to enter as a helper if you are not a pilot but want to be includued in the message list, and everyone must remember to bring their Ironman pass which will be sent out this week;  access is by Centennial Drive only, and you must have your pass to get through. See you soon!
