Junior World Gliding Championships 2007

Rieti, Italy,   July 29, 2007 – August 11, 2007

The AIRSHOW !

The Airshow was very pleasant, though it was extremely hot. It started with model gliders and a model-tow-plane. Some parapentes, one on winch , two with a light engine on the back.
Parachutists with colored smoke, beautiful vintage planes and a great Pitt Special demo.
The most outstanding demo was from the YAK team. 3 Yak’s flying a pretty long demo on the highest level. Just amazing , rolling under and over each other, flying a low inverted pass and meeting each other again to line up against the ridge of the mountains. With the Termillo and the rest of the mountain chain as background this was absolutely fabulous and even got our young pilots out of the pool , shade or bed!

I had not time to look at it all , as we were invited with the Mayor for an informal, very interesting drink at noon.
There we met an impressive lady; Contessa Maria Vede Caproni, with a unique aviation background, as most of you know.
She invited us to come to Trento to visit the Gianni Caproni museum, inaugurated in 1992. It shows a great collection of aeroplanes and historical items collected by Gianni Caproni and his family. From the 20 aircrafts 9 are unique specimen. A pity that the museum is a bit too far away, [ about 600 km.]but I am sure when you are in the neighborhood it is worthwhile to go there.
I only flew once in a Caproni; this was the very special version with the jet-engine built in it. Ingo Renner took me for this very special flight.

Tomorrow with the “wrap up “ I give you all the details of the opening at 6.45.and then of course we start the coverage of this junior world comps. See you then. Ritz
