The winning pilots yesterday all complained that they had trouble getting down without exceeding VNE. Peter Temple made the comment that if people didn’t have fun yesterday they should take up golf. Pilots had average climbs of over 7kts and just over 20% thermalling. Peter left a 12kt climb at 13000’ 120km away for final glide and that was too much.

Bruce’s speed of (170.9 raw) 162.3kph handicapped is the fastest ever flown in an Australian Nationals.

Today we have a trough to the North which may produce some Cus but it is expected to be blue in the task area.

Gridding starts at 12.30pm with first launch at 1.30pm. By then we should have reached the 39C trigger temperature that we need.  It is 10C at 10000’ with a maximum of 44C forecast. Heights are expected to be around 14000’ depending on the subsidence.

The sea breeze is forecast to come in at 5.30pm, but if the pilots are at 14000’ I guess that is not an issue J

Tasks are a 'square' around the Sunset country. Open Class have 601km. 18m and 15m are tasked together with a 498km task. Standard Class, launching last have 426km.

The winds are hard to predict and we are gridding on 08. I really hope we don’t have to change ends in the heat.
