Junior World Gliding Championships 2007

Rieti, Italy,   July 29, 2007 – August 11, 2007

Last official practise day!

Wrap up practice day 2.

As you could see on the results, which were presented yesterday just after 8 o’ clock, we had a “ nice speed” for the winning pilots of this second official practice day.
In Club class Dutch pilot Bart Berendsen [ YX] won with a speed of 118,2 km p/h over 220,2 km.
He was the last pilot to leave on track at 12.55, from the 29 competitors from 14 different countries in this class.
With a smile Bart said that he needed as much time to prepare his flight on the ground as to fly the task! He had difficulties with his final glide due to sometimes very heavy sink. He mentioned that sea breeze effected his flight a bit, as it came far inland. He reached 3000 m.

In Standard class German pilot Andre Weidlich [ YN] was the winner with a speed of 138 km. p/h over 291,6 km. He was the first pilot to leave at 12.00, from the 28 competitors from 13 different countries.

The weather was great, with enough clouds and some pilots flying up to 4000 m.

Briefing on the last practice day.

Due to the high speed and good flights from yesterday, tasks will be a bit bigger today and….into the mountains but with lots of landing places if necessary .Around the Grand Sasso area, you should be HIGH and stay high. Not too much possibilities to land there.

Club class; 212,0 km; polygon with 5 points.
Standard class; 313,5 km;polygon with 4 points.
Tasks are on the internet!

First possible launch at 12.30.

Several domestic issues were brought up during briefing. An important message was from the task setter; A high speed finish SHOULD be REALLY high speed.

Weather; A no-cloud-day is predicted but still ….with strong thermal activity. It starts early and during the day the pressure will increase and the thermals will be stronger.
Weather is on the internet!

At 6 we will have the first TC meeting and at 7.45 officials and TC’s are invited for a cocktail in town. Tomorrow we will have the opening of the 5th Junior World Championships with an Air show in the afternoon.
Now you are totally updated for the time being!
See you later for the LATEST news_small in the evening!
