2026 Canadian National Gliding Competition

Rockton, Canada,   27 July 2026 – 7 August 2026

Mon 3 Aug - Day 6

The question today was whether the task was optimistic or if the forecast was pessimistic.  It turns out the condtions were better than forecast.  Cu started early and we were able to launch at noon with lift to 3000 AGL.  The gates were opened with the 18/20 m gate opening last at 1321.  Cu on course to the first turn area worked, but not all of them.  The second leg along the shore of Lake Erie was better, but once leaving the Hagarsville area the conditions became softer and lower.  Approaching Woodstock on the way into the St Mary's area the clouds dried up and there was a 10-15 km glide in and then back out in the blue.  The leg to Tillsonburg was also mostly blue, but the final leg home had reasonable clouds to get enough height for the final glide.

Jesse Miller wins the Club class and Jerzy Szemplinski wins the 18/20 m class.
