NZ Club Class National Gliding Championships Jan 2019

Taupo, New Zealand,   27 January 2019 – 9 February 2019

Day 2

Tuesday 29th.

It’s a beauty! At last a great day for a contest, and everyone is away for a start. The task today takes us Northeast to Murupara, West towards Te Kuiti, South to the Chateau Tongariro and back.  It’s fitting that Tim Bromhead in BA should be showing out well as we get close to the halfway point, because everyone is enjoying watching progress on the gliding.net.nz tracking system that Tim has spent many hours setting up. The Contest Director is loving it – he even had a trailer on the way to a retrieve yesterday before the pilot had phoned in! Actually there were only two landouts yesterday despite only three gliders making the furthest turnpoint – three turbos of course – and all of those had to use the “iron thermal” to get home. Consequently no points were awarded for the day, but yes – I think we’re having fun!
