South African Nationals 2011

South Africa,   10 December 2011 – 22 December 2011

Wed. 14th December – 4th Contest Day - [actually a non-contest day]

Our intrepid reporter, "Cap'n Carrol" reports>>

A grey morning with 8/8th conditions and there has been on and off rain prior to briefing, so a no contest day today has been announced, and a day for sorting out the problems of yesterday and cleaning of gliders that ended up in muddy fields.

Today there is a front over the SW Cape and a low sitting over Welkom.  Rain and possibly thunderstorms are expected this afternoon and the cloudbase is not expected to get above 7000 ft.  To the west it is a lot drier with Kimberley enjoying clear blue conditions, though cold.  Rain is expected until late into the evening, and then tomorrow is supposedly going to be blue with westerly winds.  The forecast for the coming next 6 – 7 days is forecast to be good.

Several pilots have headed off in various directions – home, to the local Mall, or wherever.  Stephan has been busy dealing with insurance matters, repair companies and so forth to sort out the jack-knifed car and trailer.  Fortunately everyone is fine with no injury – just the car and trailer that need some serious “doctoring”.

As I conclude, there is a break in the clouds and a brief glimpse of sunshine, so perhaps we will enjoy at least part of the day with no rain.

Till tomorrow, Carol
