NZ Club Class National Gliding Championships Jan 2019

Taupo, Nouvelle-Zélande,   27 janvier 2019 – 9 février 2019

Day 3

A great day yesterday, and some great scores on the board. Mike Strathern in an ASW20 continued his good form from the Central Plateau contest to take maximum points in the Club Class, followed by Bob Gray and Steve Wallace who were separated by less than 40 points. Keith Essex in the immaculate ASG29 took out the MSC contest, closely followed by Pat Driessen and Sebastian Kawa.

Today has dawned fine and beaut, although a bit too blue to be ideal, and forecast to be the hottest day of the year; some pilots were lucky enough to have a “brolly dolly” while waiting for the launch, the rest had to sweat it out! Already some pilots are reporting great lift in blue thermals so it’s looking good for another great day. The task takes them up towards Tokoroa, back down to the Western Bays, East to Galatea and home, with big enough circles to enable the big boys to go for max distance and the mere mortals to clip the circles and get home before dark!
