48th Internode Australian MultiClass National Gliding Championships

Launching over

The grid is launched and the last gate will open at 2.27pm 30mins after the last launch. The open class who launched last have been changed to the B task (which is the same as the A task for the little wings). So 18m are flying 527km the rest 465km.

A sea breeze is predicted at 5.45pm today.

The sniffer was reporting climbs to 3000' when BE from Balaklava came on the radio to say he was at 8000' to the west so they launched the grid starting at 12.15 as planned.

PIT did no launches today due to a rough running engine and SSO aborted it's first launch on the ground due to low fuel pressure, but was then OK to continue, so launching was a little slower than normal.

At briefing today Ralf Henderson who is the CD for the next comp in Queensland gave a short presentation about the next comp to be held later in the year.

Yesterday there were some very late finishers as you will see from the scores. It seems the day was not as good as predicted due to subsidence. The guys were only getting to around 7000' for most of the day.

There were some big gaggles in the blue yesterday, and they made better speed than those flying alone. Some pilots got low and slow under the Cirrus patches that was drifting through.

Yesterday launching into wind for a change John Orton in the 55 raised a cheer when he launched without dropping a wing for the first time.

Today was forecast to be blue but we can see Cus forming to the North and West, of course the task is South and East. Someone said today that they would like to make a right turn on task for a change....

Tomorrow is to be hotter again with 43C forecast for Adelaide and the briefing has been moved forward to 9am to allow them to set a bigger task.
